pH This is a measure of acidity/alkalinity that ranges from 0 to 14. A reading of 7 is said to be neutral. A range of 6.5 to 8.5 is considered normal. Every stream will show variations throughout the day. Typically, pH will be highest in the afternoon as sunlight increases photosynthesis in the water.

Temperature (deg F) Stream temperatures of around 70 degrees are common in Hawaii.

DO / Dissolved Oxygen (% saturation) - This describes how much oxygen the water is currently has in relation to the maximum amount that it could have. One primary reason DO fluctuates in stream water is temperature. Warmer water is able to hold less oxygen.
